The Arkansas Razorbacks women’s gymnastics team, ranked eighth nationally, will host the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners on Friday at Bud Walton Arena. The event is expected to be one of the most competitive meets of the season for Arkansas.
In addition to the athletic competition, Arkansas is encouraging fans to help break the NCAA gymnastics attendance record. Bud Walton Arena has a capacity of over 19,000, which is larger than most college gymnastics venues. The current attendance record stands at 16,019 and was set at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Center in March 2015. The Razorbacks are urging their supporters to surpass this number.
Oklahoma previously defeated Arkansas this season at the Metroplex Challenge with a score of 198.175-197.700. While Oklahoma leads Arkansas in every event category, the closest margin between the teams is on floor exercise, where Oklahoma holds just a 0.111-point advantage.
Historically, Arkansas has struggled against Oklahoma with only one win in 26 meetings; that victory came in Norman in 2009. However, Arkansas has beaten a No. 1-ranked team three times before—once in 2009 and twice in 2011—with two of those upsets occurring at home.
Friday’s meet will also serve as Senior Night for six Gymbacks athletes: Reese Drotar, Frankie Price, Morgan Price, Leah Smith, Cally Swaney and Cami Weaver will be honored after the competition.
Fans attending are encouraged to wear white as part of a “White Out” theme. The first 250 students will receive a Gymbacks hat and the first 2,000 attendees will get white poms.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m., with introductions starting at 7:15 p.m., followed by competition at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or through the Razorback Ticket Center. The meet will also be streamed live on SEC Network+ with live scoring available via Virtius.
