The Arkansas men’s golf team is set to compete in the Bearcat Invitational, taking place September 15-16 at Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Razorbacks have a history of strong performances at this event, having finished as runners-up in both 2017 and 2019. In 2017, Arkansas recorded a three-round score of 826, which remains the third-lowest 54-hole total in program history. Two years later, the team posted an 11-under-par total of 841.
This year’s tournament will feature a field of 18 teams. Nine of these teams, including Arkansas, participated in NCAA Regionals last season. Other regional qualifiers include Augusta, Furman, Kansas, Little Rock, Louisville, Sam Houston, South Florida and TCU.
Four members from the Razorbacks’ squad that tied for third at the season-opening Carmel Cup will travel to Cincinnati: John Daly II, Niilo Maki-Petaja, Erich Fortlage and Cam Smith. Daly II enters the event ranked #84 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking after tying for 19th place at the Carmel Cup. Maki-Petaja also tied for 19th at that tournament. Fortlage was Arkansas’s top finisher at the Carmel Cup with a tie for sixth place and a score of six-under-par (210). Cam Smith completes the group returning from the opener.
Willie Gordon will join them in making his collegiate debut. Gordon recently won two AJGA events—the Mizuno Junior Championship and Wyndham Invitational—and was runner-up at the AJGA Team TaylorMade Invitational.
The Bearcat Invitational will use a “5 count 4” format on a par-71 course measuring 7,279 yards.
The full list of participating teams includes Arkansas (#T34), Augusta, Central Florida, Cincinnati, Furman, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Little Rock, Louisville (#44), Maryland, Memphis, Nebraska, UNC Greensboro, Ohio State, Sam Houston, South Florida (#T39) and TCU (#T39).
