Two athletes from the Arkansas Razorbacks track and field team have received Southeastern Conference (SEC) Athlete of the Week honors after their performances at the Arkansas Invitational.
Abdoul Sy-Savane was named SEC men’s Freshman of the Week. He achieved a personal best time of 7.68 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles semifinal, which ties for the fastest time by a freshman this year and ranks eighth among all collegiate competitors for the season. His result also places him seventh on the University of Arkansas all-time list. In the final, Sy-Savane finished second with a time of 7.78 seconds, just behind Texas State freshman Ja’Shaun Lloyd, who ran 7.74 seconds.
Sanu Jallow-Lockhart earned recognition as SEC women’s Runner of the Week after winning the 600 meters in 1:24.19, breaking the previous collegiate record by nearly one second and finishing more than two seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. The former record of 1:25.16 was set by Britton Wilson, another Razorback athlete, in 2023.
Jallow-Lockhart’s performance also led to her being named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The next event for Arkansas will be hosting the Razorback Invitational on January 30-31 at Randal Tyson Track Center.
