Arkansas Razorbacks newcomers excel at home invitational

Newcomers to the Arkansas Razorbacks men’s track and field team delivered strong performances at the Arkansas Invitational on Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville.

Devyn Wright, who previously won the 2025 NAIA Outdoor 400m championship, secured victory in the 600m with a time of 1:16.45. This result marks the second fastest time in University of Arkansas history for that event. Wright’s performance also stands as the second fastest 600m ever run at the Arkansas Invitational, third best in Tyson facility history, and fourth best by a collegiate athlete this season. Chris Bailey holds the current UA, meet, and facility record with a time of 1:15.18 set in 2023.

Abraham Johnson achieved a personal best of 52-4.75 (15.97 meters) to win the triple jump, which currently ranks seventh among collegiate athletes this season.

In distance events, Brian Masai won the mile with a career-best time of 4:00.20, followed by teammate Ernest Cheruiyot in second place with his own career-best of 4:01.94. Jack Williams and James Sankei finished seventh and eighth respectively in the same race. Later, Sankei placed third in his debut at the 3,000m distance with a time of 8:08.80.

Rivaldo Marshall took first place in the 1,000m event with a time of 2:22.45, leading an Arkansas sweep that saw Owen Logorodi finish second (2:23.04), Dawson Welsh third (2:24.73), and Josh Rammage fourth (2:24.81).

In hurdles competition, Vashaun Vascianna recorded a semifinal time of 7.63 seconds in the 60m hurdles—the fifth fastest mark globally this season and fastest ever recorded during prelims at this meet. Teammate Abdoul Sy-Savane ran a semifinal time of 7.68 seconds to move to No. 7 on UA’s all-time list and later finished second in the final with a time of 7.78 seconds.

Other notable results included Jordan Pierre finishing as runner-up in the 300m (33.24), Dapriest Hogans placing third in the 400m (47.31), and Joshua Blakely clearing 6-8.75 (2.05 meters) for fourth place in high jump.

The Razorbacks closed out their meet by winning the men’s 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:09.78 against Iowa’s squad (3:10.73). The relay team featured Hogans (47.40 split), Wright (46.85), Julian Carter (47.06), and Pierre anchoring with a split of 48.47.
