Arkansas women’s basketball lost to Georgia 76-66 at Bud Walton Arena on Thursday night. Despite trailing by as many as 22 points during the game and starting the fourth quarter down 62-45, Arkansas mounted a comeback with a 14-0 run, narrowing the deficit to six points with under four minutes remaining. Georgia responded with a 7-0 run, restoring their double-digit lead in the final minutes.

Arkansas outscored Georgia in three of the four quarters but was held to just one point in the second quarter. That scoring drought contributed significantly to their loss.

In the first quarter, Ashlynn Chlarson opened scoring for Arkansas, and Wyvette Mayberry followed with five consecutive points. Taleyah Jones hit a three-pointer that sparked a 10-0 run for Arkansas, giving them an early advantage. By the end of the first quarter, Jones led Arkansas with six points.

Georgia started strong in the second quarter with a 7-0 run and tied the game at 22 before quickly pulling ahead. Arkansas did not make a field goal in this period and was outscored 26-1.

The third quarter saw Arkansas improve its offense, surpassing its second-quarter total within 31 seconds. The Razorbacks managed to cut into Georgia’s lead slightly by outscoring them 22-21 during this period.

In the fourth quarter, Arkansas continued its push. An 11-0 run began with Samara Deas’ first three-pointer of the game. Emily Robinson contributed six straight points, and Chlarson extended the streak to 14-0 after a steal and an and-one play. However, Mia Woolfolk ended Georgia’s scoring drought and helped her team regain control.

Samara Deas recorded her sixth double-double of the season for Arkansas with 17 points, ten rebounds, and six steals. She led her team in scoring while Dani Carnegie paced Georgia with 31 points overall. Georgia shot nearly 46 percent from the field compared to Arkansas’ almost 40 percent. Free throw shooting was an issue for Arkansas at just over 53 percent.

Arkansas will next face No. 4 Texas on Sunday, January 25 at home; coverage will be available on SEC Network.
