The Arkansas women’s golf team is leading after the first round of the Blessings Collegiate Invitational, which began Monday at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville. The team posted a score of 2-over par 290 and currently holds a seven-shot lead over Mississippi State.

Junior Maria José Marin led the Razorbacks with a score of 2-under, placing her second individually after the opening round. She birdied three of her last four holes to finish strong. Sophomore Clarisa Temelo finished at 1-under, putting her in third place, while junior Abbey Schutte shot even par to sit in fourth.

All four Arkansas counting scores were within the top 15 after day one. The team had a slow start but improved on the back nine, with several players picking up birdies late in their rounds.

Mississippi State’s Avery Weed recorded a 7-under 65 and leads the individual standings by five shots over José Marin.

Two Razorback players, Swetha Sathish and Sayers Allen, made their collegiate debuts on Monday. Sophomore Anna Kate Nichols also competed for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks are scheduled to begin their second round Tuesday at 9:15 a.m., starting from hole No. 10. Individual competitors will tee off earlier at 7:45 a.m.
