Arkansas women’s golf has added Melliyal Schmitt of Réunion Island, France, to its roster. Head coach Shauna Taylor announced the signing and highlighted Schmitt’s training background and potential impact on the team.
“Mel adds a lot to our team on and off the golf course,” Taylor said. “She has trained the last few years in France at the Centre de Performance – Golf National and has developed a lot. She is a hard worker and has shown a lot of improvement over the past year. She is not only a great player but an even better person. She will come in and have a big impact not only in the area of golf, but will make our family unit even stronger.”
Schmitt grew up in Saint-Gilles on Réunion Island before relocating to Guyancourt, France, at age 14 to attend the French National Golf Performance Center. She has represented France as part of the national team three times and recently won five out of her last eight tournaments.
