Arkansas women’s golf team secured a fourth-place finish at the Carmel Cup held in Pebble Beach, California. Maria José Marin and Reagan Zibilski led the Razorbacks with bogey-free rounds on Sunday, each earning top 10 finishes.

Marin finished fourth overall at six-under par. She was one-under on the front nine before making birdies on holes 11, 12, 15, 16, and 18. This performance moved her into second place among the field of 48 players late in the round. However, Texas A&M’s Cayetana Fernandez birdied hole 17 to break up a three-way tie for first place at seven-under.

Zibilski placed fifth at three-under par after shooting four-under on the front nine and three-under on the back. Her final-round score of 65 was two strokes short of her career low set last year. Zibilski began the tournament with a three-over-par round on Friday and improved to one-over-par Saturday.

Other Arkansas golfers included Abbey Schutte (tied for 27th), Clarisa Temelo (tied for 36th), Natalie Blonien (tied for 38th), and Anna Kate Nichols (tied for 41st). Schutte opened with a one-under-par round but could not maintain that pace through the weekend. Temelo did not record an even or under-par round in her sophomore season debut. Blonien shot consistent rounds of 76 throughout all three days. Nichols, who won this summer’s Arkansas state amateur championship, improved from two opening rounds of 77 to shoot a final-round 75.

As a team, Arkansas finished three shots behind Oklahoma State, which took third place. Texas A&M claimed the team title by finishing well ahead of runner-up Vanderbilt.

The Razorbacks will next compete when they host the Blessings Collegiate Invitational at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville from September 29 to October 1.

“José Marin (-6, 4th) was 1-under on the front nine before birdieing holes 11, 12, 15, 16 and 18 and surging to second place on the leaderboard of 48 players. The junior was poised to finish runner-up at the Carmel Cup for the third straight year until Texas A&M’s Cayetana Fernandez birdied 17 to break up the group of three that were tied for first at 7-under.”

“Zibilski (-3,5th) was steady all day and shot four under on the front nine and three under on the back.”
