Arkansas women’s tennis to face South Carolina in SEC Tournament opener

The Arkansas Razorbacks women’s tennis team will travel to Norman, Oklahoma, to play against South Carolina in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament on April 15. The match is scheduled for Wednesday at 9:00 a.m.

The tournament is significant for both teams as it offers an opportunity to advance and improve their rankings. The Razorbacks enter as the No. 14 seed with a regular season record of 13-13 overall and 3-12 in conference play. They are currently ranked No. 54 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Carolina Gomez Alonso and Anet Koskel hold a No. 20 ITA ranking in doubles, while Gomez Alonso is ranked No. 32 in singles competition.

Earlier this season, Arkansas defeated South Carolina with a score of 4-1 during their match in Fayetteville.

South Carolina comes into the tournament as the No. 11 seed with a regular season record of 12-11 overall and a conference record of 5-10. The Gamecocks are ranked No. 27 by ITA and have two players listed among the top singles competitors: Kaitlyn Carnicella at No. 33 and Helena Buchwald at No. 37. In doubles, Lauren Friedman and Helena Buchwald are ranked No.13, while Kaitlyn Carnicella teams up with Anna Larsson for a ranking of No.78.

If Arkansas wins against South Carolina, they will move on to face Florida in the second round on Thursday, April 16th at Norman.
