Six athletes from the Arkansas Razorbacks advanced to the next round of their events on the first day of the USATF Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene. In addition, Arkansas alum Taliyah Brooks is currently in second place in the heptathlon after completing four events.
Krissy Gear and Logan Jolly both qualified for Saturday’s 3,000m steeplechase final. Gear finished fifth in her heat with a time of 9:30.75, while Jolly was sixth in her heat and advanced based on time with a mark of 9:38.68, ranking 13th overall.
Taliyah Brooks accumulated 3,898 points over four heptathlon events and sits behind Anna Hall, who leads with 4,097 points. Allie Jones holds third place with 3,662 points. Brooks began with a 13.02-second run in the 100m hurdles for 1,121 points and followed by clearing 5-11.25 (1.81 meters) in the high jump for another 991 points. She threw the shot put 45-11 (14 meters), earning 794 points, and ended the day running the 200m in 23.88 seconds for an additional 992 points.
In other preliminary action, NCAA champion Jordan Anthony and incoming team member Dapriest Hogans each ran from lane nine in their respective heats of the men’s 100m prelims and moved on to the semifinal round. Anthony posted a time of 10.14 seconds with slight wind assistance to finish third in his heat and rank tenth overall; Hogans recorded a time of 10.26 seconds into a headwind to place fifth in his heat and twenty-first overall.
Jada Mowatt reached the women’s 100m semifinal after finishing second in her heat with a time of 11.11 seconds against a -1.5 wind reading, placing thirteenth overall.
Nikki Hiltz won her preliminary heat of the women’s 1,500m with a time of 4:05.99—fifth fastest among qualifiers for Saturday’s final.
In men’s middle-distance competition, Reuben Reina ran a time of 3:37.37 during preliminaries while Austen Dalquist finished in 3:39.73; however, neither advanced as qualification required times under approximately three minutes thirty-five seconds.
In decathlon competition, Weaver ended day one ranked tenth overall after scoring a total of 3,954 points across five events—including an opening sprint of eleven-point-three-five seconds for seven hundred eighty-four points; long jump at twenty-two feet one-and-a-quarter inches (six-point-seven-five meters) worth seven hundred fifty-five points; shot put throw measuring forty-six feet six-and-a-quarter inches (fourteen-point-one-eight meters) yielding seven hundred thirty-nine points; high jump clearance at six feet nine-and-three-quarters inches (two-point-zero-eight meters) adding eight hundred seventy-eight points; and closing out with four-hundred-meter dash clocked at fifty-point-three-seven seconds for seven hundred ninety-eight points.
