Carolina Gomez of the Arkansas women’s tennis team achieved a significant milestone at the ITA All-American Championships on Friday. Competing in the main draw consolation round of 32, Gomez secured a win over top-ranked DJ Bennett from Auburn with scores of 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

This victory marks the first time since 2007 that a Razorback has defeated a No. 1 ranked opponent. The last player to do so was Aurelija Miseviciute, who beat Megan Falcon of LSU at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Only Gomez and Miseviciute have accomplished this in program history.

Later in the day, Gomez played against Ashton Bowers of Auburn in the consolation qualifying round of 16 but lost 2-6, 4-6.
