Razorback senior John Daly II has been named SEC Golfer of the Week following his recent victory at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. Daly secured the win with rounds of 73, 72, and 69, finishing at two-under-par for a total score of 214. He was the only player to finish under par in the 54-hole event.
Daly entered the final round tied for third and one stroke behind the leader after 36 holes. He shot a three-under 69 in the last round, playing the final 11 holes at three-under with no bogeys to clinch the title. The format had all five Arkansas teammates competing in the same group, and Daly held off challenges from Cam Smith and Erich Fortlage, who both tied for third at one-over-par. Gerardo Gomez finished tied for fifth after a final-round five-under 67.
The Arkansas team also achieved a dominant victory, shooting a nine-under-par 279 in the final round to finish at three-under-par (861) overall. Louisville finished second at fourteen-over-par.
This marks Daly’s second career win but his first over a full 54-hole event; he previously won last spring’s Columbia Spring Invitational, which was played over 36 holes.
Daly has placed inside the top twenty in all three events this season, including his recent win and a runner-up result at the Bearcat Invitational. Over the summer, he won the Southern Amateur, took second place in the Elite Summer Golf Series, and reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur.
His latest performance moved him up ten spots to number sixty-one in the World Amateur Golf Rankings and nineteen places to thirty-one in PGA TOUR University standings. The top twenty-five players in PGA TOUR University’s final rankings earn exemption status on either PGA Tour, Korn Ferry Tour or PGA Tour Americas.
