Jordan Pierre was named Newcomer Runner of the Year and Doug Case earned Men’s Coach of the Year for the 2026 season, according to a March 12 announcement from the Southeastern Conference office.
The recognition comes after a strong performance by the Arkansas Razorbacks at the SEC Indoor Championships. In his first season as head coach, Case led the team to an SEC Indoor title with 113.2 points, well ahead of Ole Miss and Texas A&M. The Razorbacks scored in 12 out of 13 events they entered and secured victories in four events: the 200 meters, 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters, and the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Arkansas athletes collected a total of eleven medals at the meet—four golds, four silvers, and three bronzes. Pierre contributed significantly by breaking the University of Arkansas record in the 400 meters with a time of 45.06 seconds to earn silver at the championships. This performance surpassed Chris Bailey’s previous school record set in 2023.
Pierre’s time ranks sixth on this year’s world list for the event and is third among both U.S. sprinters and collegiate athletes. He also ran a key leg in Arkansas’ winning effort in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a split of 45.89 seconds as they finished in 3:04.29. Earlier in the season at the Tyson Invitational, Pierre helped set another top time for Arkansas with a split of 45.12 seconds.
During the Arkansas Qualifier meet, Pierre was part of another school record-setting distance medley relay team that finished second with a time of 9:17.30—breaking their own mark set earlier this year—with Pierre running a split of 45.98 seconds on his leg.
The Razorbacks’ depth across multiple events played a major role in securing their twenty-eighth SEC Indoor Championship title, scoring heavily both in sprints-related events (57 points) and mid-distance/distance relays (52 points).
