No. 13 Arkansas secured its first win of the 2025 women’s soccer season with a 2-0 victory over Georgia Southern. The match, initially scheduled to be played in Statesboro, was moved to Fayetteville because of weather concerns.
Arkansas gained an early advantage, scoring before the one-minute mark for its first lead of the season. Freshman Molly Teed’s shot from outside the box was deflected toward transfer midfielder Erin Bailey, who found herself unmarked and finished at the far post.
Bailey scored her first goal as a Razorback on this play, though she had previously scored at Razorback Field while playing for BYU last year against Arkansas.
In the 30th minute, sophomore midfielder Aniyah Nurse-Whyte nearly increased Arkansas’ lead with a strong effort from distance, but Georgia Southern goalkeeper Katie Oakley made the save.
Freshman forward Camila Palacios made her collegiate debut in the 37th minute and quickly contributed by scoring her first goal just three minutes later after maneuvering past defenders at the top of the penalty box. Palacios became Arkansas’ sixth different goal scorer through three matches this season.
Arkansas outshot Georgia Southern 24-4 and forced Oakley into nine saves. Razorback goalkeeper Keegan Smith recorded her first shutout of the season and twelfth of her career. Georgia Southern’s best opportunity came late in the game but was stopped by Smith.
Arkansas will next host No. 1 Duke on Thursday, August 29 at Razorback Field. The match is set for a 6 p.m. kickoff and will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
