Fayetteville High School issued the following announcement on Aug. 28.
August 31 Students planning to participate in college athletics should register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Additionally, students should register with CorecourseGPA to check their NCAA eligibility status. More information can be found on the FHS NCAA Initial Eligibility Resources website.
On your radar (August):
- Determine which colleges you will apply to, what type of application they require, your chosen admission type for each college, as well as priority scholarship and financial aid deadlines for each specific school. Record these in Naviance.
- Students applying to a Common Application school should make sure their Naviance account and their Common Application account are linked.
- Work on Common Application essay and supplemental essays.
- Students planning to attend the U of A may apply beginning in August. Students should receive acceptance within two to three weeks of submitting a completed application.
- Determine which teachers will write letters of recommendation - Students may only request teacher letters of recommendation if the college to which they are applying requires them. Check in with your teachers to ensure that they are able to write a recommendation for you. Ask each teacher what they will need to write a recommendation for you (e.g., resume, activities list etc.). Request letter of recommendations through Naviance.
- Work on your Brag Sheet for counselor letters of recommendation - found in Naviance under About Me > My Surveys > Surveys Not Started Note: Students not completing the brag sheet will not have a letter written for college or for scholarship purposes. This is not the time to be modest. The more detail a student provides, the more personalized a letter will be.
- Students thinking about the Honors College at the University of Arkansas should register for the Honors College Convocation. Registration should open in late August/early September. This event fills up quickly and is offered on a first come first served basis. Students attending will receive a School Business absence if they bring the paperwork to their attendance office.
- Did you complete classes over the summer? Make sure these credits are added to your transcript.
