PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS (PWC): Celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights

Lights

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.

At PwC, we believe it is vital that all of our people feel seen and heard -- it’s what drives our culture of belonging and brings our purpose to life. In an organization of 55,000 people, there is an abundance of diverse backgrounds, beliefs and views. One of the most impactful ways to show our colleagues that we respect their backgrounds and traditions is to learn more, invite them to share and even join in the celebration. Our Inclusion Networks at the firm are open to all of our employees and that is why it means so much to us, as the leaders of the Hindu subchapter within the Inter-belief Inclusion Network, to share what Diwali means to us.

Also known as the festival of lights, many Hindus celebrate Diwali as the start of a new year, giving time to perform puja, or worship, and celebrate the spiritual victory of light over darkness. It’s a joyous time of year for our community, marked by family traditions, when our homes are brightened with clay lamps called diyas and the brilliance of light lifts the spirits of everyone around. This Diwali, we both plan to celebrate by gathering with our families. We look forward to decorating our homes with string lights, diyas, or flowers as well as visiting family and friends, bearing dried fruit delicacies and sweets as gifts. In Vartika’s family, the kids will receive new clothes and toys after a special dinner and in Jay’s family the children plan to light their favorite firecrackers, chakris (ground spinners) and phuljhadis (sparklers), in the evening.

Diwali is a special and festive occasion for the Hindu community. Learn how people across the firm will celebrate Diwali this year.
