PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) issued the following announcement on Dec. 22.
Christmas is an important time of year for Christians and many others around the world. For many, even those outside the Christian faith, Christmas is synonymous with winter time, presents, decorations, cookies, Santa Claus and his reindeer - the list goes on and on. But it is also a time for Christians to remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus as described in the New Testament of the Bible. It’s a time of giving and serving others in the same spirit as the three Magi, known as wise men, who traveled to visit Jesus bearing gifts in the story of his birth. It’s an opportunity for reflection, celebration and remembrance, with many of us reminded of traditions and fond memories of family gatherings with those with us today and loved ones no longer here.
As we near Christmas, we’re looking forward to celebrating its meaning with our families. Bob, his wife, and two children have already begun their celebration with Advent, which begins four Sundays before Christmas day. His family is writing down and engaging in a different act of kindness and giving each day leading up to Christmas. Collected in a box under the tree, the acts of kindness will be the first gift his family opens on Christmas morning in honor of Jesus’ birth. On Christmas Day, Earl, his wife and three children will open presents, have a large family breakfast at home, read the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament, and sing Christmas carols. The day will be topped off with an annual Christmas dinner with family and friends.
We feel fortunate to work for a firm where we are able to embrace our Christian faith and build on a culture of belonging through our roles as the co-leaders of the Christian subchapter of our Inter-belief Inclusion Network (IBIN) at PwC. It’s a unique opportunity for us to come together and lift each other up as well as be present as resources for others in IBIN and across the firm. Earl’s Church has a saying, “Life change happens in the context of community.” As we both work to foster a sense of belonging and community within PwC, we can become better professionals, better colleagues, better advocates, and better allies to those around us inside and outside PwC, and make a difference in the communities we serve.
