Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green has been named to the 2025 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List, according to an announcement by the Tyler Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler.
The award honors the top offensive player in Division I football who meets at least one of several Texas-related criteria: being born in Texas, graduating from a Texas high school, playing at a Texas-based junior college, or currently playing for a Texas Division I four-year college.
Green, originally from Lewisville, Texas, is coming off a strong 2024 season. He totaled 3,756 yards of offense—602 rushing and 3,154 passing with 23 touchdowns—which was the second-highest single-season total in Arkansas program history. Only Ryan Mallett’s record of 3,795 yards surpasses it. Green also recorded just the seventh 3,000-yard passing season in program history. Nationally in 2024, he ranked 13th in total offense per game (288.9), 14th in passing yards per completion (13.71), and 21st in total passing yards (3,154).
He was named Liberty Bowl MVP after throwing for an Arkansas bowl record of 341 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another touchdown and accumulating 81 rushing yards during a win over Texas Tech. This performance made him the first Arkansas quarterback since 2016 to throw for more than 300 yards in a bowl game. In total, Green had three games with over 300 passing yards during the season, including a career-best of 416 yards against Oklahoma State on September 7.
Looking ahead to the new season, Green is one of only two returning quarterbacks nationally—alongside Oklahoma’s John Mateer—to have passed for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for over 600 yards last year. Entering the fall, he is among ten FBS quarterbacks who have accumulated at least 4,000 career passing yards and at least 1,000 career rushing yards at this level. His combined career total of both stands at 8,576—the third highest nationally—and leads all FBS players with five or fewer seasons of eligibility entering this year.
Green has received several preseason honors already this summer: he was named to watch lists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (August 19), Manning Award (August 14), Davey O’Brien Award (August 7), and Maxwell Award (July 28).
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award is named after Earl Campbell—a graduate of John Tyler High School in Tyler—who went on to star at Texas before winning the Heisman Trophy as a senior by leading the nation with more than seventeen hundred rushing yards and nineteen touchdowns. Campbell later played professionally for the Houston Oilers where he earned Rookie of the Year honors in his first NFL season and led the league in rushing three times before being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman began preseason practice with his team on August 1 as they prepare for their opener against Alabama A&M on August 30 at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium; kickoff is set for 3:15 p.m., broadcast on SEC Network.
