Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green has been recognized as the East-West Shrine Bowl Monday Morning Quarterback, according to an announcement from the organization.
The award is presented each week to a player eligible for all-star games who demonstrates significant NFL traits.
In Arkansas’ 52-7 win over Alabama A&M, Green completed 24 of 31 passes for 322 yards and set a career high with six touchdown passes. He also rushed nine times for 41 yards. His six passing touchdowns were the most by an Arkansas quarterback in a single game since 2015 and tied for the second most in program history. Green and Brandon Allen (2015) are now the only quarterbacks in school history to have thrown at least six touchdown passes in one game. His completion percentage of 77.42 was the highest by an Arkansas quarterback with at least 24 completions since at least 1998.
Green, who is from Lewisville, Texas, achieved his fifth career game with more than 300 passing yards and became the first Arkansas quarterback to record consecutive games of over 300 passing yards since Nick Starkel did so in 2019. His six passing touchdowns are currently tied for the most nationally in a single game this season, while his passer efficiency rating of 228.54 ranks as the fifth-best mark among FBS quarterbacks this year.
Heading into the season, Green and Oklahoma’s John Mateer were the only returning quarterbacks nationally to have both passed for over 3,000 yards and rushed for over 600 yards during the previous year. Green also enters this season as one of ten active FBS quarterbacks who have surpassed both 4,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in their careers.
Arkansas began its season under Head Coach Sam Pittman with a decisive win over Alabama A&M at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. The team will play its next game against Arkansas State at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock on Saturday at 4 p.m., which will be broadcast on ESPN+/SEC Network+.
