Arkansas quarterback Taylen Green has been named to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The award, now in its 39th year, is presented by the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation and A. O. Smith Corporation. It recognizes quarterbacks who excel on and off the field and encourages character, leadership, and academic achievement.

Green, a redshirt senior from Lewisville, Texas, was one of 58 quarterbacks included on the list. In 2024, he accumulated 3,756 total yards—602 rushing and 3,154 passing with 23 touchdowns—which was the second-highest single-season total in Arkansas program history. Only Ryan Mallett’s record of 3,795 yards stands ahead of him. Green’s season also included just the seventh time an Arkansas player has thrown for over 3,000 yards.

He finished last season ranked 13th nationally in total offense per game (288.9), 14th in passing yards per completion (13.71), and 21st in total passing yards (3,154). During the Liberty Bowl win against Texas Tech, Green completed 11-21 passes for a bowl-record 341 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another touchdown and totaling 81 rushing yards. This performance earned him Liberty Bowl MVP honors.

In addition to his passing achievements—throwing over 300 yards in three games last year—Green reached a career-high with 416 passing yards at Oklahoma State on September 7.

For the upcoming season, Green is one of only two returning FBS quarterbacks—alongside Oklahoma’s John Mateer—to have passed for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for over 600 yards during the previous year. He is also among ten active FBS quarterbacks entering this season with more than 4,000 career passing yards and more than 1,000 career rushing yards. His combined career yardage of 8,576 ranks third nationally among players with five or fewer seasons of eligibility remaining.

Green has also been selected to other preseason watch lists: Manning Award (August 14), Davey O’Brien Award (August 7), and Maxwell Award (July 28).

The Golden Arm Award winner will be announced at a ceremony in December at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore.

Head Coach Sam Pittman opened preseason practice with his team on August 1 as they prepare for their first game against Alabama A&M on August 30 at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
